By-knives sheathed in longsword scabbards

Greetings all,

Looking through The Medieval Soldier, I saw a few mentions of
longsword scabbards built with integral sheaths for by knife and
pricker. I am conscious of the fact that that book is 16 years old now
and reflects the state of research at that time, and that these are
something I've only seen clearly in reproduction equipment and not in
artwork so I am curious as to whether these were common on longsword
scabbards or whether they'd be something unusual, with the personal
knives more commonly carried separately or sheathed with a dagger or
messer?

Am I looking at the wrong artwork, or are these recreations based on
extant examples I'm not aware of (since I live about as far from
European museums as it is possible to get).

Thanks.
