Hello.
My text:
"By the way, is it necessary to discuss whether things can be done or
could be an option? I think it to be a complete waste of time to go
interpreting pictorial evidence when hands-on surviving speciemens are
available.
Just like discussing the option of buttoning hose to doublets, just
because but one source shows it and all other paintings and engravings
clearly show laces. It´s hard enough to keep track with the "average"
stuff."

Yup, most definitely, but: For the said buttons there is but ONE reference
which is the illustrations of the Solothurn fencing manual ("Solothurner
Fechtbuch") showing white dots alongside the lower hem of the doublet.
So why in the world should I spend my time interpreting this one-of-a-kind
reference when there is reference by the truckload as to the attachment of
hosen to a doublet by means of laces? Interpreting pictures for the sake of
interpreting something is beyond me.
