Hi Tim,
Cavalry surely did 'mix it up' with cavalry - not usually decisively as far
as I can read into what is written. It seems to have become more common
once more as the 15th century progressed, from Bauge while Henry V was
still alive, at Montelherey (1465) during the War of Public Weal, and
during the 'Skirmish' at Neus (1475) - to give some Northern European
examples. None of the engagements listed were particularly decisive battles
- Bauge only sticking out to to Henry's brother getting himself killed, and
the drubbing the English cavalry took.
Cheers

The questioner basically wants to know whether this was a frequent
occurrence, or rarely done. Although I find lots of references to cavalry
engagements, and the well-known examples from the HYW of cavalry vs.
infantry, I am having difficulty finding descriptions of battles where
cavalry charged into cavalry. MS illustrations from the 14th c. are full
of depictions of cavalry hacking away at each other. Was this commonly
done, or was it unusual? What examples can be cited?
The context is a discussion about cavalry charges in general, and how they
were actually performed, and why they did or did not work at various
times. Everyone is familiar with the examples of Agincourt & Crecy where
the cavalry charges failed against infantry; but the question arose about
cavalry charging into other cavalry, and I am nearly at a loss for
examples. Yet it seems as if it must have happened fairly regularly.
Thanks for any help with this.
Cheers,
Tim
