Re: Padded shoulders (was: Re: Padded jacks sleeve construction)

Hello.

Actually, I am curious to see the picture of a mail shirt worn over a puffed
sleeve. The only depictions (quite a few) I know of are

-either depictions of soldiers wearing just the Jack plus maybe a mail
standard or an additional breastplate, or

-knights and princes wearing full plate armour over an arming doublet
without any further defence over the puffed upper sleeves.

If I take into consideration that mail to a certain extent used to be sort
of "tailored" to the body shape, covering these puffed shoulders in mail
would require extra "tailoring" plus extra material- or a very loose fit to
go with the puffed sleeve thus requiring even more mail around the
shoulders.
So to my mind not the way to go for the rank and file, but rather something
for posh followers of fashion.

Regards

Ivo
