Re: Pentecost 2004 - A Participant's Report

Hi all!
I'd agree with Christian on most points. It was a very fine event, but it starts, it seems, to fall into a rut. Obviously more music would make the thing even finer (I have very fond memories from the last year, and from the photos I gather that the Daaden event was even more swinging). Maybe some kind of tournament(s) would be in place?
There were a number of quarterstaves at the place- some kind of push-the-other-guy-from-a-log or something? Rope pulling? Something to put a bit of competition between the dizaines. Cannon dismounting and mounting up? Not too much, mind, so that the focus of the event would stay military. On the other hand, the Hausbuch, for instance, shows a number of pastimes employed by soldiers in the period. I can volunteer to prepare some ideas and help as much as I can in bringing them to life.
The guarding I recall fondly. We can make it even better the next time. There were indeed too many cameras all over the place. While I do enjoy seeing myself in pictures, I can sacrifice my narcissism for the good of the whole thing. Christian's idea seems to be a very simple and straightforward one and as such a good one.
By the way. Don't mention it, Christian. You have helped us with our tent in the moment of our dismay. Thank YOU :))
To sum up: a very cool event (especially the nights, I kid you not). I'd be more than happy to take part in a next one. All the best
Mick
