These types of tents are still in use today and used extensively by New Age Travellers and other alternative lifestyle people. They are commonly referred to as 'Benders' and can be seen at Glastonbury and Stone Henge festivals.
 
Basically you use hazel branches or similar, which you tie into a frame. You then cover this with a sheet of canvas. this forms a very wind resistent tunnel style tent.
 
My first tent used on reenactments was one of these.
