Hi,

This pattern is the one of the so-called "Pourpoint of Charles de Blois", at
least the drawing at the bottom of the page . It is a typical pourpoint of
the end of the XIVth century, one of the few we have left. It is kept in the
Textile museum in Lyon. Another one, very close to this one in shape, is in
Chartres Cathedral. The shape is quite close however the construction is
very different.

Anyway, both pourpoint were made around 1380 so the pattern is nearly no use
to us to make a proper 1460-1480 doublet, except to give us some hints on
the sewing techniques and construction methods. The fashion of the late
XIVth is very different to the late XVth.

The seam at the waist is not an absolute obligation, however it helps a lot
to get the proper shape . If you are already have the hourglass shape
yourself or your are a magnificent tailor you can do without, otherwise it
will be easier and faster to make your doublet with a seam at the waist.

Hope it helps,

Mathieu
