Re: problems with tents

Hi All
I have read, heard, been told at some time ( for the life of me I cannot remember where)about brushing the cloth over with melted bees wax, letting it cool then running over with a warm iron to make sure it soaks in to the fibres -probably better off using the modern stuff.
In some of the American buckskinning publications for 18th century reenactors, is a reference to making waterproof ground sheets by pinning cotton sheeting to a suitable surface ie a wall, then painting the cloth with linseed oil, letting the cloth dry for two or three weeks then repeating once or twice more.
I am not at all sure if the fire risk is worth the the hassle!!!
