Garment rivets?

From: "Wolfram Troeder"

Hello,
I have a question concerning rivets in garments.
On picture from 1450 (URL below) there are kind of hollow rivets
or rings in or sewn on a skirt.
The lace goes definitely though the object and the fabric (best
seen on the lower half) but part of the object is not visible as it
might be sewn on the fabric. These are also the possible stress
points of a ring construction. I have no knowledge of hollow rivets
in one piece or two and AFAI were told there were non.
So can someone give me more information about that?

Thanks a lot

Wolfram
