Hosen

I have some concerns about hosen.
    Our group did an event this weekend and we had several hosen tear.
>From the pattern book I have (The Medieval Tailors Assistant, Sarah
Thursfield, ISBN 0-89676-239-4) this is a common issue. Her directions
for mending showed the exact place we had tears, though some of ours
were much worse.
We use wools bought especially for re-enactors from a local supplier,
based on color and texture.
My questions are.
How long does a pair usually last?
Is there a weave that lasts better than others?
Is there a specific pattern recommended by COSG for those who wish to
make their own?
Are there any specific forms of woolen cloth to avoid?
Is your motion limited by the hosen?
I appreciate any and all help on this topic.

Who we are. Order of the Rose.
    Our group is a very young group in the states (Ohio). We are still
in the beginning stages of living history, hence the hosen surprise. We
are trying to get to a level of authenticity where we feel comfortable
presenting ourselves. The group has come a long way already but we have
miles to go.
So far we have limited our events to private and low key. We are
attending our first time line next month.
