Haut-Koenigsbourg 2016 - Back to the castle!

After seven years, the Company of Saint George returned to the illustrious castle of Haut-Koenigsbourg. As a new recruit I couldn't wait to see the people in the company again. For months I was preparing and upgrading my equipment to the best of my abilities. Then the day finally came. People started to arrive and greet each other as if they had only met a few weeks before, but some of us haven't seen each other for two years! This was the moment when I thought, this is it, this is the feeling I have been waiting for for the past year.

The first day was Friday. It was a fast day. The weather was exactly like our mood without cheese and butter...grey. But the castle has some kind of miraculous power over you. As the fog moved from room to room, courtyard to courtyard I began to feel like there is no outside world. Just this castle and the people in it. For dinner Lars and the kitchen crew made some attempts to recreate the infamous grey fish soup. I have to be honest with you all. If the fish soup that Lars made was anything like the previous one I would be surprised. The rest of the night went in the usual company way. People spread all around the castle and having a wonderful time far from anyhting that we call civilisation. Except for the unfortunate dizaine who won the honour of the first night watch. As time passed by people slowly went to their sleeping places to have a fairly cool night.

Franck Carrière

We are deeply saddened to announce the death of Company member Franck Carrière who was taken away by a severe illness on Wednesday, May 25th, 2016.

Nous avons l’immense regret de vous annoncer le décès de Franck Carrière qui a été emporté par la maladie le mercredi 25 mai 2016.

Josiane Guyot, 1950 - 2015

We are sorry to announce the death of Company member Josiane Guyot. Josiane passed away on Wednesday, December 9, 2015 in La-Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, after a severe illness. She spent the last years since her retirement in Hauterive, canton de Neuchâtel.

Few will remember when Josiane attended her first Company events around 1997. The same year I started as a young reenactor. Well, Josiane was not very young anymore back then, but her energy, dedication and will to get work done helped her to make friends quickly. Age never stood in her way. Or it was rather her experience that helped her make friends everywhere.

Announcing Haut-Kœnigsbourg 2016

Next April, the Company of Saynte George will to take quarters in the wonderful castle of Haut-Kœnigsbourg, Alsace, France.

It has been seven years since our last event there and in the meantime the castle has been through a lot of restoration work.

We are thrilled to go there once again. Haut-Kœnigsbourg is without doubt one of the most inspiring and iconic castles in Europe and it has created close bonds with the Company ever since the creation of the group. We are looking forward to a glorious event in a magnificent setting.

The event will take place from Friday April 1st to Sunday 3rd.

Vallerois 2015

This year at Pentecost the Companie of St. George hosted a private event as a replacement for the cancelled siege of Castle Hallwyl at Vallerois-le-Bois (blogpost #1 and blogpost #2) near Dijon in France.
